He spends a few minutes with a reoccurring dream he has day after day
He hopes one day her dream will meet his and the two will become a reality
He speaks not a word but he knows her heart can hear him
He does not have to look at her for her to know he can see her soul
Her soul has been bruised and beaten and carries deep and broken wounds
He would like to be the splint that helps heal the old with the new
She tries to wear the splint but feels it will hurt and the not knowing scares her
She fears that her healing may still leave a scar she cannot hide
She tells herself the familiar pain may hurt less than the scar
So she let's him have his dreams and holds onto her reality
It's not safe, it's not fun, it's not happy but it has become comfortable
He let's her know his love is here like a band-aid for a sore
He cannot undo the cuts life has given her but he wants to to ease the pain
He has come to realize that his dreams may be lost dreams
And he doesn't think she will ever make her life his life
He seems to always come along too late
He seems to have to settle for being second or give up on his dream
This makes him sad
His thoughts of her fill his mind the way smoke fills a burning room
He knows he loves her and although he could quit he doesn't want to
