In Anticipation of the Holidays

by Anna Stephens   Sep 29, 2013

Silver bells and cockle shells,
overdue bills in a row.
Runny noses, broken toys,
sloppy yellow snow.

Ten more pounds of yellow fat,
frozen fingers, tranquilizers.
Mom and Dad search frantically
for alcoholic equalizers.

Patience straining at the seams.
It makes me run for cover.
The dog just pissed upon the tree.
Thank God, it's almost over.

And please allow me to be the first to wish you all a
very Merry Christmas.

Anna - this poem had me in stitches and chronicles the trials of this holiday perfectly. The whole of the second stanza was excellent but "the dog just pissed upon the tree" broke the final rib!
    All the very best,

Happy Christmas 2014 dear Anna, it's an adorable poem, it's meant to return to this site after one year of posting this and be the first to comment, it made me feel so good.

    Be safe and keep writing.
    Much love
