Stained Glass Wings

by Hannah Lizette   Oct 10, 2013

Ripples of self rejection
splash against piano key
stepping stones and
hollowed out logs,
humming the melody
of my country roots.

I'm a hostage to this river,
memories of flower crowns
and lantern stars drown
every wave of happiness
that washes upon my bank.

As the poem in my
pocket states -
I'm just another dead
butterfly floating away
from life.

And as I count the links
in the chain that pulls
me under,
I focus on stained glass
wings in a starless world
and conquer my only fear.

This is amazing Hannah, this is so beautifully sad, the emotions it brings out are so powerful, so strong.
I loved the imagery, and how you told a story with this. Love the use of butterflies, and the piano.

    Great title too

Wow Hannah this is such a beautiful write. I can see why people would love this and it was published. There is so much sad imagery here throughout. I love how you say that you splash your piano with sadness. Any piano in the poem is a plus in my book haha. Anyway. It seems you are saying you are just an unknown soul that's just floating through life waiting for someone to take away the memories of pain. When you feel sad it seems there is no light or stars in this case in your heart or life. Anywho this is such a great poem with excellent wording. 5/5
