My Opinion

by Gary R Priester   Oct 15, 2013

Some poets
Have lost their way
Their poems twist and turn
Till we do not know
What they try to say
We search for meaning
On each line of the page
Till the pleasure of verse
Fades away
Please poet
listen to what I say
Write your feelings, thoughts and stories
In a simpler way
Poetry should flow
From the words upon each page
To paint pictures
In our minds and hearts
With the power they convey
Do not write as if speaking
To your peers from a stage
Write to the common man
Who simply picks up the page

Tired of being confused by overly complex poems

This makes me consider a whole lot about my own poetry, especially the stage part. I'm real happy I came across this. Been having writers block lately, this just might be why. Thank you. 5/5

:) I agree with you. I also like how you have penned your thoughts poetically with rhymes without making it sound harsh.

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement

I teach shop classes at a high school and during down time I routinely read poetry to my students. Complex poems turn off students and they seldom understand the authors meaning or intent. However, poetry that flows and paints pictures in their minds always leaves them asking for more.
