Chronicles of a Lipstick Stain

by Maple Tree   Oct 22, 2013

I dared to be different,
laced in snowboots and
perfume, kissing you
just after the noon day
sun began to fall.

The loneliness expressed
between us both was no
mystery, only concealed
in cordial conversation.

I only whispered hello
over table conversation,
when in all honesty, I stained
your shirt with my kisses
a thousand times over,
in the heated steam of
our entrees.

Three years past the first time
avalanche tween us,
organizing the tube of lipstick
used to capture the true
essence of who we have grown to be.

When sitting alone in darkness,
pain strips away our kisses,
stains shall glow in the dark
granting us memories of why
true love is stronger than any
disease in the world.

Wow Maple this is so powerful, it is deep with emotions because you can sense the battle between the fighter, who is hopeful, strong and won't be defeated, but also the pain and the sadness from the heart of that fighter who cannot hide their pain.

The title is very eye catching, and made me wonder what your poem would be about, and I was surprised. I did not except such powerful words or imagery from a title like that.

I really liked your line of :

"of who we have grown to be."

    - I think it shows how the relationship started as two separate people, who began to grow together and change together, and in that journey they became one. Which is how love should be, and how it should evolve.

And of course, your ending was very touching, because it such a sad story, but you hold onto that hope and the light, and it is so very true that love is the most powerful thing and nothing can beat it because it is always there.

I was very touched by your poem. I didn't expect to be given the title, but I love the idea of the lipstick and how it forms memories of the past, and how you used such a simple thing to create your message. Quite a creative piece.

Nice to see you writing again. xx
