So Much Has Changed

by schmetterling   Oct 24, 2013

When she was a little girl,
She would paint beautiful pictures in her head,
Light shone bright through her eyes,
Her happiness was widespread.
She twirled in dresses,
And danced in the rain,
Nothing could change her,
No one could give this tiny soul pain.
She remained invincible,
Not hurt by a thing,
A strong warrior she was,
But now she thinks, "what has happened to me?".
She doesn't have uplifting images racing through her mind anymore,
Her eyes show a never-ending pain,
What caused her to fall down?
To circle the drain.
Thoughts break her down every night,
Killing her pure self inside,
Nobody knows though,
She's a master of disguise.
She isn't that strong little girl anymore,
Her wrists are visibly scarred,
She found relief in the most dangerous things,
Because life got just too hard.
Her entire world has collapsed on itself,
So she struggles to find a reason to stay,
Pills, blades, and lighters become an addiction,
She believes this is the only way.
If they looked back 10 years ago,
Nothing would be the same,
She'd always smile,
Not hiding away under sleeves and makeup in shame.
Fast forward to the future,
That she might not have,
Because it's just that difficult,
Suffocation holds her throat and grabs.
She may never find her strength again,
It's been lost for awhile,
Her entire world is broken,
None of these actions being worthwhile.
She's afraid if she isn't saved,
Her existence might not carry on much further,
She hopes someone can see the darkness in her smile,
That she's not sure she can stay much longer.
That little girl,
Who always drew flowers and hearts,
Has been possessed by the monsters within her skin,
Her tiny heart broken into sharp dangerous shards.
