Candlelit Message

by Forever Hers   Nov 9, 2013

I had told her to go upstairs and wait for me there,
I told her that I had a surprise,
Her smile was soft and sweet
As she kissed my cheek before climbing the stairs.
I smiled and made sure she went up them all
Before I rummaged through a drawer in the kitchen
And found a long lighter,
Lighting a skinny, long white candle.
I set it down and smiled to myself,
Walking up the stairs and wrapping her
In my arms, placing a gentle kiss on her lips
Before lacing my fingers with hers.
She smiled at me as I led her out a window,
Walking onto an extended part of the roof
Of our little home,
Whispering my love, adoration, and utter devotion
In her ear.
Her arms wound around my neck and pulled me closer,
Her lips finding my forehead as she smiled.
I looked in her eyes and quietly told her to turn around,
She looked at me with a question sparking in her eyes
But she did as I asked,
Her breath catching in her throat as her hand
Shakily went to her chest as it registered in her mind.
I walked beside her and took her hand in mine,
Kneeling beside her and opened the small box,
Glancing down below at a hundred candles
Formed to create a glow
That asked in the warm night:

"Will you marry me?"
