The Promise

by Forever Hers   Nov 11, 2013

They walked hand in hand down the road,
The onyx night cascading like ribbons of velvet
Across the sky, the stars twinking within it
Like shards of a broken glass, so beautiful.

The girl whispered in her lover's ear
That she would love her forever, would never let harm
Touch her sweet, soft skin;

She lied.

She spun her around, her smile brilliant
And showing sparkling white teeth
That glimmered in the low light of the street lamp,
Her laugh soft, tinkling, and slightly manic.

She brought her lover to her chest,
Her lips grazing the back of her shoulder
As her fingers trailed down her neck
And grasped her chin, jerking it upward.

She snatched a blade from her jacket
And hastily put it to her lover's throat,
Pressing lightly at first, whispering softly,
"You are mine, no one else can have you."

The girl choked out a gasping sob
As she laughed menacingly,
"Darling, I saw you with him,
If I can't have you, nobody can."

With one last jealous, possessive kiss,
She sliced her throat,
Watching the blood fall and stain her skin red
As she dropped to the ground;

Never to be loved by anyone else
Other than her lover
And the promise
Of love that lasted for eternity.
