The Hidden Sword

by Baby Rainbow   Nov 11, 2013

My icy shadow rises from
the cold mist of yesterday's defeat.
A thick fog fills the troubled sky,
declaring war across the land.

Defeated I once was,
but never again shall I be.

Judgement looms in the eyes of the enemy,
staring into my iris to determine
my next move. Strike or defend,
when shall I draw out my sharpest sword
that remains hidden from the human eye?

And whose eyes can truly see
the fighter that lives within?
The forgotten warrior of out existence;
our instinct of survival.

So as my icy shadow rises
from the blue mist of yesterday's defeat,
I declare a battle and here by claim
tomorrow's victory...

...for victory shall be mine.

I think this poem has a great deeper meaning so to speak because of the way you worded it. I think you are saying that you will not let today defeat you and you are finally rising up to fight back. I believe when you say the land maybe you are talking about your life. I love the emotion here it is raw and you are filled with so much hope. O think in life we all go through those struggles and we struggle to even survive. I In the thirdstanza you say the word judgement which drew my eye. I think from what you have wwritten so far people have hurt you or judged you in all your life and the enemy could ne anything I feel. No one really knows what lies inside of you only you can truly understand that. Overall this is a great poem because of the hope. You don't let anything defeat you even though you can let it all fall apart. Again I loved the wording you used and the flow is good and works well here.

I wondered who had written this one...never guessed it was you :)

    My icy shadow rises from
the cold mist of yesterday's defeat.
An icy fog fills the troubled sky,
    declaring war across the land.

You use icy twice in this stanza so..maybe replace one of them? It is a good opening stanza however and leaves the reader wondering what will happen...will you give up so easily?

    Defeated I once was,
but never again shall I be.
    ^^^^

Oh No...this tells me instantly you will definitely not!

Judgement looms in the eyes of the enemy,
staring into my iris to determine
my next move. Strike or defend,
when shall I draw out my sharpest sword
that remains hidden from the human eye?

Confrontation...I like this part...eyeballing each other...picking your moment...

And whose eyes can truly see
    the fighter that lives within?
The forgotten warrior of out existence; *should out be our here?
    our instinct of survival.

So as my icy shadow rises
from the blue mist of yesterday's defeat,
I declare a battle and here by claim
    tomorrow's victory...

    ...for victory shall be mine.

I love the determination of you final statement...yes, I think victory is a possibility for you :)
