Missed opportunities

by AJ Downey   Nov 14, 2013

I stand on the dock bearing a gold ticket
One ticket to a beautiful life together
I step up to board the ship
Only to see it has set sail with someone else on board
Someone else stole the spot reserved for you, bearing a counterfeit golden ticket.
You stand there on the dock, wondering what to do
Reveal the counterfeit, and ruin the rest of the trip only to have a slim chance of getting to enjoy the trip a second time around
Or watch the counterfeiter enjoy the trip, which You should be on, but let them enjoy the trip together. It will last forever, so long as the ticket keeps its gold appearance.
You worked hard for that ticket
They did not
You wished it to be from the very
Beginning, only to realize it too late
They did not
