Stilts

by Forever Hers   Nov 17, 2013

You put me on a pedestal
That I am far from worthy of having,
So now I must climb onto these stilts
Carved from my own bones,
My own version of hieroglyphics
Etched into their surface
And cursing me with each step I take.
I stumble and threaten to fall
And as I do, a pit full of jagged rocks
That are cold, icy words
Appears beneath me; waiting to swallow
Me whole as I try desperately to bring back a smile
But am left questioning the reason behind the frown.
I slip once more, my footing entirely unsure,
And am consumed by the emptiness
Underneath my undeserved throne.

This is definitely very dark and I loved the metaphor usage here. I know that pedestal well and I likr how you used it. People make it so high that you you cannot getdown. You feel trapped by eeverything and you feel crushed. I think the stilts are a metaphor about your life they are the only thing keeping you hanging on and if you fall there will be nothing left. Sadness and darkess will consume you. You cannot get control of your emotions and soon you fear they will eat you alive. Then at you stumble you fall into that your darkness your imagination makes it out to be. Great poem again. The wordinh is wonderful.
