The Heir

by Mahal Ko Kuya Ko   Dec 8, 2013

You always
want Roses
to be
planted beside
your name.

Memories sing
tunes of
misunderstood quotations
and lifeless promises.

I like
the way
sorrowful butterflies
find the
crimson lullabies
hiding underneath
your skeletons.

In order
to be worthy
of everything
in this world,
you must
carry the weight
of your
treacherous crown.

You are not
a diamond,
but you
are polished
by friction.

Your throne
is a
purple story,
a purple moon,
a Lilac
that has
a desire
to bury you
where earthly dreams
are born.

The moonlight
is expressionless...
its reflection
is like
lake of repentance
in your eyes.

You will cry...
But you must
forgive yourself
for letting
your proud wings
lift your feet
off the ground.

My confusion in this poem is that I don't know who is the narrator. At first, I thought "the heir" is the one speaking to the one who died per se, but there are a few stanzas that seem the opposite as if the one who died is talking to "the heir." Other than that, I find some strong lines in this piece and some good images as well. It does have this mysterious tone surrounding this poem. I enjoyed it.

I think you are saying that this person is trying to break free of rumors of something and trying to live their own life. They have had a troubled past and now they are still trying to fight it. I loved the imagery you used here dashiel because the wording is great. You stepped out of ypur element here I think but it just shows how much you can write. A real poet can write about anything and I believe this is one of your better poems. Well done
