Frozen in a Fire

by Forever Hers   Dec 23, 2013

The water runs over bare skin,
Skin that is icy to the touch
Even amongst the blazing streams
Falling from above a weary head.

The tears melt and merge with the water,
Soaking a face weathered by depression,
A smile absent from quivering lips;
A heart aches silently beneath the surface.

Sobs are muted as lips are viciously glued together,
Retaining screams from a shattered soul;
A turn of the knob and the water flows hotter
And yet, the skin never warms, only grows colder.

Knees buckle and bend, lacking strength and stability
As the droplets form into daggers, pelting and ripping the skin,
Leaving the aching heart to fade and to become
Frozen in a fire.
