Sehnsucht

by Saerelune   Jan 7, 2014

I've been driving alongside waters,
along escorts of windmills, ever since
taking lessons in life upon the road.

And I could see the sky from different
mirrors, listen to my instructor chattering
in broken English and half-roused Italian
to some sales' woman from Sicilia,
thinking to myself how a big man
could turn off radios but not a woman.

There's peace in his absence, though.

His iPhone-fiddled finger points out directions
but he can't stop me from dreaming.
And upon this dying Autumn afternoon,
the sun seems to look down on sheep
and their lazy ways, snout burried in grass.

But how I wish to put my ear to the ground
and listen to the heartbeat of traffic.

How I wish to jeopardize their rhythm,
swap their signposts, dominate the roads
then lie supine upon a meadow.

What I enjoy about your style of poetry is that they carry these internal reflections that are agreeable for the reader. There is always a personality in your writing that introduces the author's idea and thought process. They are also very fresh and modern like what Abed said above.

:the sun seems to look down on sheep
and their lazy ways, snout burried in grass:

^ really liked this line for some reason. It's perfectly timed and inserted in the poem and it's narration. The image and tone gives the impression that the speaker envies the sheep just as she desires to lie supine upon a meadow.

    Nicely written. :)
