Passing The Torch

by Demitri Von Schnutz   Feb 8, 2014

Although I know your history,
You're still a great mystery.
Although you're young you talk like you're old,
Even through all of your pain, you keep a heart of pure gold.

You surround yourself in darkness,
When you should shower in the light.
You bind yourself in chains and madness,
Because, you sacrificed your wings so you can't take flight.
You call yourself a monster, when you know its not right.

You pass on wisdom through your roots like a tree,
You've implanted seeds of knowledge, even in me.
Its time to remove your mask and show us your real face,
I'll hold the title of a Monster in your place.

You are the wisest person that I have ever known,
Even though you're not fully grown.
Its as if you were born in the future and the past,
You've seen the begin and the end, if only it could last.

I hope you wake up and show us the true way,
If it only means having you back for one day.
We were supposed to laugh about life when we got old on a porch,
But I guess its your time and you're passing the torch.
