to realize you weren't who you thought you were
when i saw your head outside the train doors
that may afternoon, my heart froze
i didn't think i could ever believe in love
until that day
your blue suit and wandering eyes
on my hips, on my lips, then away
i longed for yours to meet mine
and then when they did
i couldn't gather the strength to hold them
so i shifted them elsewhere
but maybe i was right to not believe
and love couldn't hold us both in
now there's a valentine's card on my desk
signed with all my heart
and addressed to no one at all
another love fading away
like the slowly melting snow
