Love in the time of cholera

Her name was Fermina,
the only girl he ever loved
To him she was a diva,
a crowned goddess of love!
Through letters they talked,
through hope they walked..
until the day he proposed,
but her father disapproved!
He sent her away,
where she met another man,
threw his love away,
and left him a lonely man!
Honor to him was to die for love,
and so he waited...
the wind might change its round!!
Then by fate he met his dove,
who told him to forget....
whatever they had was just a cloud!
He lost the only thing that was ever important
cried for years.... trying to forget!
Had a way with women,
but no one was ever important!
After years,
Until one day,
rejoicing seeing her passing by....
Only to find out she'd had children!
He'd never been so tormented,
for 51 years, 9 months and 4 days he waited!
until her husband died...
and on the day of the funeral,
to go tell her that his love had never died!
And for the love of God,
Had her back when he was 72!!

Sometimes past his mama had told him...
"Son, the only sickness you ever had was cholera....."
....." Ma, I thought love was cholera"
