Zephyr

by EchosLastSong   Feb 18, 2014

In a dark and lonely place I once existed,
content with my forlorn soul and crippled heart
I passively sat and observed the world fall in and out of love, ignorant to the lonely echoing cries of my heart.

But one monotonous afternoon,
a day like any other,
a warm Southern breeze casually drifted into the empty rooms of my soul

And wouldn't leave.

I opened every window,
called for the biting Northern winds to scare it off
I didn't have enough life left for another heartbreak.

But the sweet air began stirring things inside,
emotions long forgotten and left to rot;
Blowing the dust and cobwebs of hardship

Away.

I now hold my little zephyr,
sweet and benevolent
like a small yellow chickadee
close to my heart.
He whispers to my soul
and mine to his.

With strong arms and soft kisses he answers the cry of my heart.
