A New Jay

Though I've been a liar, cheater, and thief,
as a person I am driven by a single belief.
the belief that I am greater that the one that came before me.
because I'm not a copycat, not a fake, not a boring story.
I am unique, I am powerful, I am amazing, I am strong.
I am the outcome of my decisions both right and wrong.
I derive from a history I am not proud to claim,
but the visions of greatness I see in myself keep me praying.
praying to go outside and feel the wind against my skin
and praying to see my future unfold and give me personal wins.
as I pray I also work to better who I am
because looking in the mirror I see myself growing to a man.
though my preparation for this is yet complete.
I work to be more than a person on the street,
or just a student to fill a seat.
I don't want to be a human being
who lacks the mind capacity
to realize the difference between wants and needs.
I want to be the greatest like Jordan on the bulls,
or I could be a politician making laws and setting rules.
I want to gain more than what I have In this time
because the past that I have isn't truly mine.
I take actions to grow everyday
and I can never be the same person I was yesterday.
though I may still bear the same name
everyday I am a new jay.
