Denying Loss

by Baby Rainbow   Feb 26, 2014

Can you really lose something
that has already been gone?
Is it possible to miss someone more,
as time keeps moving on?

My heart trembles with worry
because I am beginning to feel
you slip away, although I know
you are not really here.

I get scared of losing the memories,
of not being able to remember your face
or the way that you make me feel.

And even though so many years have passed,
I feel time pressuring me into letting you go.

I still cannot force myself to say goodbye,
because it feels like I am losing something
that deep down, I already know is gone...

... and I am not ready to say goodbye
to the life I had planned with you.

I once was told that you can't lose something you never had. It was heartbreaking. We you lose somebody by death it is even harder because you was not given a fair chance.

This I agree is very sad and I really loved the questionsyou asked in the first stanza. They are very true. Yes you can miss someone more and mmore. It seems this person misses their first love and in time they are missing them more and more. Here I really liked how you gave the character a voice (the person they are missing I mean). It seems like this person was a great person for them. Though this person hurt you, you fell in love. We all miss the memories of a person or what was. No one really wants to move on from their first love but to grow we must. Beautiful and sad write.
