The Casket

by lillie   Mar 18, 2014

She looked into his eyes and said, " love that night I fought all kinds of demons because I couldn't leave you this way."

His eyes soulful, some light turned on inside his soul,
as he replied, " If you leave, how would I spend every day?"

Her heart sank, her eyes of blue became an ocean of tears.
For she knocked on deaths door, that night with all types of fears.

The man she looked at, hugged her soulfully, in comfort of pain.
His words trembled, his life would crash and burn again.

For if her life was lost, where would his heart be?
His brain wouldn't function, he would be headless and free.

Her remains would be but a picture in a frame.
Standing over her casket, his love would never be the same.

The thought of losing, someone, the way she would lose her own self.
She would be like a hidden story, an unknown book on an empty shelf.

He couldn't lose her to the demons inside her mind.
No matter the distance, time would stop until, her
soul he would find.

The thoughts of her, in her casket, laying so still.
His heart would forever sink, a void no one could fill.

    Lose her own self.

    - I would just have this line reading as herself.. and not own self.

Your poem is really powerful, I like the lay out of two lines each, and the rhyming through out and flow was really good. It was subtle, didn't seem forced.

Your tone remained the same throughout and your wording kept the interest, I couldn't help myself but to read on and on and want to find out more about this little story and the characters you introduced.

You had some really moving lines in here. Some which I could relate to a lot and I am sure other readers will too.

    Sad, but very well written.

That was wonderfully depressing, made me remember the importance of life and the way other people value each other. Thank you, that was a great poem, despite the sad subject matter it was sweet.
