Broken Angel

by Jack Nightengale   Mar 20, 2014

Falling from the sky,
Reaching for a world unknown,
Wings once spread, now broken still tries to fly
The reality of still being you when it thought that it was grown.

Once an image of pure mortality,
Seconds pass which feels like an eternity,
The world opens as chains break through and impale,
Words trapped as it tries to yell.

Spiked and pulled into a world chaos and pain,
Monsters devour the wings and rip through the skin,
The chaotic world slowly sinks deep within the brain,
As the monsters leave, the thought lingers and pain is all that remains.

Now wingless walking without skin in a world of beast,
Searching for shelter preying not to become the next feast,
Burning in a blaze of darkness as a witness to an unseen strangle,
If only this one had listened, it wouldn't have been another broken angel.

This a great write! I really enjoyed your rhyming and imagery. I also like the dark feelings of it; even one so great, can still fall so far from the light.

    Not sure if you noticed, but Stanza 3, line 1;
a world OF chaos and pain?

Again, great write. Interested to read more.
