Ageless Lullaby or What the Hell (sonnet)

by Larry Chamberlin   Apr 1, 2014

It is easy for one to be jaded
to let the cynicism take over
yet before the memories are faded
and your youth flees to the wild for cover
take heart in knowledge that life is reborn
every day in multitudes of ways
so treat not your past innocence with scorn
and appreciate the struggles and frays
that brought you to this altar of honor
keep protected in your heart those you fought
let justice recognize wards placed 'round her
you'll still never find eternity sought.

So is life and beyond with all great men
for none may live beyond their fatal sin.

Firstly,I must applaud your eye-catching titles, before even having read the poem I suspect that I'm going to find it engrossing.they say never judge a book by it's cover, but your poems are the few and far between stories that stay true to their cover.now to the poem itself....stunning, flowing and eloquent, the imagery, as always is so incredibly vivid.it's a very sentimental and touching piece, one that I feel should be set amidst those"old wives tales" and sayings that contain some life lesson that we all tend to unintentionally take to heart.

Wow Larry! I love this poem. I really love the message behind this poem, and how you pointed that out in such a simple way... almost as a reminder for the reader to change his or her mindset.

This was my favorite part of the poem:

"take heart in knowledge that life is reborn
every day in multitudes of ways"

^ I've been feeling down lately and this part made me smile, because everyday is a new day and there are many reasons to be happy in life!

Well done with this poem <3
