As Eagles We Soar.

by Poet on the Piano   Apr 17, 2014

We are all survivors. Survivors of fear, abuse
and its manipulative species, despair, loneliness,
illness, regret, rejection, sins, a hushed heart,
a love never returned, a day we never knew
our eyes could possibly shine from.
We are remnants of anything and everything
and that doesn't make us worthless
for our many parts can be raised up.
Yes, our eyes are glistening, as the majestic sky
delivers grace from Heaven,
yet we have not been outridden by the storm.

Our stories nurture us, at the same time,
they eat up any deviation from our path.
Sometimes, we choose to be chained
against walls rather than seek help,
rather than acknowledge we are beloved.

And so eons see a generation we never
believed in, as they mourn and accept
defeat.
We must sing, we must rise, we must
act selflessly and think of others often,
understanding it is not selfish to call
out that which buries us into shame,
that which unsettles our thoughts
and causes shakes and midnight tremors.

We could not have lived, without first
being loved.

We are newborn eagles, anticipating when
we are all called to live again and be lifted up,

by none other than a God who will endure
through any black cloud of life.

Was listening to "Survivor" by Matthew West on the way home tonight. That was my prompt, and although the story initially was written for a cancer patient, the lyrics change later to realize how we are all survivors, of so many things. (As I was writing I had the image of an eagle and thought of the hymn "and He will raise you up on eagle's wings").

Beautiful, inspiring and so undoubtedly true. I love the use of eagles and the thought of soaring and finding our way...being stronger and being able to be free. As always your words touch me, deeper than I ever thought possible. Amazing words by an amazing young woman

Guinea Pig! this is so great, I am so glad I read this this morning, it is very uplifting and speaks volumes of truth. I like your list in your first stanza, list of emotions which straight away we can all tick our own boxes and perhaps attract to which one we feel relates to us most.

It is so true that we all go through life surviving what it throws at us. I like your imagery here of the eagle, and the meaning of the bravery and strength it carries, wings can be broken but they are strong enough to heal, and move on again.

I really like how you used the song as the prompt, the song itself is just beautiful, very inspiring.

    Lovely work!
