The Silver Bangle

"Meri payal! Meri payal!"
The little girl cried, pointing to the glistening silver
Beneath the hem of her saree.
The bells adorning it tinkled as she jiggled to the music;
What was a simple piece of jewellery to anyone else
To her transformed her into a magic princess
Or perhaps a beautiful Bollywood actress.
She was lost in the whirl of colour as people dashed around her
Doting on her cousin (the bride) who was blushing and blushing
As everyone congratulated her and her new husband.
But no matter how proud the newlyweds felt
Or their parents, siblings, friends
It was somehow doubtful that they felt quite as proud
As the little girl did of her bangle

    Aww, what a beautiful and unique little poem/story.

    The flow held up pretty good actually, and the interest was strong throughout. I enjoyed the way you had not only the girl's emotions in it, but you showed how others felt too, and compared this to that of the girls feelings toward this bangle that is so dear to her.

    what a lovely, creative little story. I like seeing different languages and religions, traditions etc, added into poetry. I find them unique and informative.

    There is so much you can say about this poem joss!! It is wonderful. First of all the message of simplicity is very well used here. As you say it doesn't seem like nothing to anyone else but to this special girl it might have been to only gift she as ever received so she will treasure it. Second of all. I love how she "dreams" of being a princess or that she is a princess :). Third: you made her come alive as the main character and showed us her beautiful personality. She is very happy and free it seems. And loves life! I loved also how you paid attention to the smallest details as well. Like the blushing. It makes the poem come alive. Beautiful!
