Unwritten Letters

by Michael D Nalley   May 14, 2014

Should I write another letter
that will likely never get read
remembering something better
left in silence or at least unsaid
takes a character to form words
a mind and heart to give meaning
spirit to make them fly like birds
truth to show the way we're leaning
and inspiration to write them down
so they might be recalled alone
or become forever renown
I may share a thought I don't even own.

Hi, Thanks for participating in that contest.

Here is my comment for this poem:

spirit to make them fly like birds
truth to show the way we're leaning
and inspiration to write them down

^ These lines spoke to me. Actually, those lines could speak to any writer. I do agree with them, it takes a mind and a heart to give meaning. I think there's something else though. I am not exactly sure but I do have the feeling that there's something more that it takes to write them down.

Though the line that made me sit back and read it several times was "I may share a thought I don't even own." <-- hmm, I guess we all are sharing the same thoughts over and over again. The ideas in the world are probably becoming too cliche, however, it requires creativity to write them with different words. So I am in a debate, would sharing a thought with different words, would that be our own thought? even though the idea is exactly the same as someone else's idea? or wouldn't it be our own? Also, what if we have the same words and the same thought but turns out that we both thought about it without having heard them before? Would that be our own? or not?

I guess I could think about that...

    Overall, thought provoking line.

In the whole poem, I continued feeling insecurity rather the doubt of whether to write or not that letter. But I also feel fear as well as I thought the poem was pretty much saying.. why should I write it? would it be worth it?

    Well done.
