Home Front

We were standing at the war front, covered in dirt and blood from over the years

You were smiling, and I was standing there empty. You thought the end was near

And as the battle raged on, your smile faltered and I faltered, there was nothing left

These battles have taken everything and torn us into what is today's mess.

After crusades, a new us is usually born from the losses and pain we endured

But I realized a long time ago in those fights, there is never purely good

We wanted outcomes, we wanted a future worth fighting for

But after this, there is nothing left between us, nothing for us to be born

You were smiles, and I was this bottled up emotions waiting for the right time

You were hopeful for every tomorrow, knowing that the sun was going to shine

I was expression on canvas, words to conduct the army, pictures showing that very sun

But wars, battles, life, and death change a man, that even our words are just as deadly as guns

So when the sound came from the enemies' mouth that actually spoke truth

You can see why when the paths were cleared that I had to leave you

I fight on my own and it seems like it has been that way for a while

I know you hold your own, but what happened to that smile?
