Portal

"Portal"

Sometimes every once in a while
Something passes through this world
Breaking through like a speeding projectile
A catapult hurled from the netherworld.

It stops to have a look around
Its face steel, pallid and cautious
Unlike anything on Earth abound
Afterbirth drips from the tilted head of the Mantis.

Vibrating at speeds unseen
Waiting for its time to leap
Deceptively darting spaces between
Displaced lives its harvest to reap.

Creeping up from behind
As if to take a bite
But fate had not spun the stars aligned
and off it sped out of sight.

Sometimes every once in a while
Something passes through this world
Breaking through like a speeding projectile
A catapult hurled from the netherworld.
