Letter To Depression

by WakingFreedom   Jun 18, 2014

Your face is unknown to me.

I don't remember the way
You caressed my thoughts with death.

I don't remember the way
You seduced my heart with sadness.

I don't remember the way
You kissed my lips with the words of darkness.

You are now my ex-emotion
And I have no use for you any more.

Quit trying to knock on my door
Because I am not letting you in.

Quit calling in the middle of night
Your calls will go unanswered.

I have moved on and found my Happiness
And you can't get jealous of that.

I have a reason to live again.
I found him after we broke up and I moved out
Happiness gave me love.

He gave me sun kissed smiles
And full belly laughter.

He gave me hopes, dreams, and a destiny
Nothing you ever could provide me.

I just wanted to let you know that
You could stop trying to get a hold of me
Because you will never again win my heart over.

It's been stolen sweetly by Happiness.

Goodbye forever, Depression.

Sincerely,
Me

I love this piece. So strong to declare victory over depression. No more of it.

Ingenious.I love how you've personified depression as an ex lover, the sense of victory is very evident in the end.I love it, the great thing is you could really use this as a break up poem, just change depression and love to the names, as I said, ingenious :-)

Writing this shows your strength and I admire you for sharing this. It's a powerful, moving piece and I like how you have personified depression, it's obviously something personal and something you have/or currently are overcoming. Your voice in this is clear, especially saying how you don't remember depression's voice because you aren't letting yourself be deceived by it, or be lead by its negative thoughts. I'm glad you have found true happiness, hold onto that and remember what matters in life, what brings the most meaning, not what will bring you down.

    Keep writing!
