Dear Society

Sometimes on my way to work, while at the stops,
I curl my hair with my fingertips as if I'm flirting with traffic lights
to give me Green lights instead of red ones.
It works! I curl, and curl. And I twist and twist. And like a miracle
the green appears after the red light. Try it yourself. {wink}

Other times, I pinch my cheeks until my rear mirror blushes like my face
because I'm cheap, too cheap to buy make up from a store
that makes me wait in line more than at the line at the Doctors Office.

Do you know how expensive time is?

In the make up department, there are girls everywhere, everywhere!
well, may be just me when the store opens, but have you seen all those products?
all those cosmetics? Eye shadows, mascaras, foundations:
Sheer foundation, oil-free foundation, whipped foundation, stick foundation,
powder foundation, mineral foundation, shimmer foundation,
waterproof foundation, foundation primer, lipsticks, lipgloss, lip balm,
lip plumpler, lipliner, eyeliner, concealer, face primer and more powders
and more primers, and brushes and more brushes?

Then all of the sudden, I find myself in the middle of out of nowhere,
surrounded by women of all races and and all ages asking me
if this pearl color foundation suits the tonality of their skin.... AND I

While flirting with the traffic lights, cannot understand
how the woman besides my car can drive while at the same time applies
all those products in her face. Nor can I understand why
in the world people ask me about make up.

I am not into make up,

Make up is like an agent that works for time.
It makes sure to accelerate the process of aging on faces
while at the same time leaves no apparent trace of wrinkles.
It creates illusions of youthfulness to the eyes who see
the skins...

take a look at the models in the magazines!

They look like porcelain dolls,
doll up even to the cheekbones
but take a look at their youthfulness
shimmering away from their looks
when they have no primer, no foundation,
no concealers, nor eyeliners
to make up for their confidence.

These women feel naked. They feel ashamed
of their skins, of their blemishes,
of who they are.
They no longer recognize themselves,
their natural state, and on some occasions
nor even their co-workers do...

They treat them like strangers
in the street until they realize,

"ohhh that was!?
darn Girl!"

So they have to resort to apply cosmetics
while rushing to work,
without realizing that
Time charges skins for employing
make up on a daily basis.

The price to pay is too high.
And I cannot afford it

I found this in my poems, a supposed attempt at slam poetry. Now that I think about it. I have nothing against make up but I do find sad when I see girls who have to rely on it and who wear make up to make up for their confidence. We all are beautiful. A little make up occasional is fine. Also I believe one has to pay close attention to what one is applying in our skins. How do you feel about make up? What are your thoughts? How do you girls feel about it? How about you guys? I bet this topic would be a good one for a contest.
