Drunken Stupidity

by -Choke-On-MY-Halo-   Jul 8, 2014

Bar littered with non sober induced mortals
Blinded with neon lights
Reflected from every mirrored surface

A maiden sat upon a rigidity
Old grandfather arm chair
Pondering how this wasn't in
The "ghost stories" told when all were
"Innocent"

Fights birthing from misunderstandings
Or rather drunken mistakes
Punches flying every which way
Morning come people would realize
Their own idiocy

Coffee would awaken the memories
Mornings weren't complete without one vice
This one would just throw a worst kicker
Than the fist from the night before

Masking the injures
Behind classy expensive clothes
All lie about their very nature
Like all humanity does
In time

Made for Saffie's challenge
Words challenged with:
Flashing lights
Arm chair
Ghost tales
Every morning
& the lies

I feel like this poem deserves much more recogniztion than it recieved - it's incredibily penned and blends together numerous scenes (bar/club scene, self-reflection, musing) it's truly a shame it didn't receive more comments.

"Bar littered with non sober induced mortals
    Blinded with neon lights
    Reflected from every mirrored surface"

I think you should change the word 'induced' to 'rendered' or consider rephrasing to something along the lines of "Bar littered with mortals rendered intoxicated', and change 'blinded with' to 'blinded by'. Nevertheless, it's incredible how much imagery you were able to fit into a small amount of lines. It's a true depiction of the club scene - slobbery drunks, excessive blinding lights in every corner. To any sober sane person, it'd be a bit obnoxious, but then again when people are drunk, they tend to lose that inhibition and find things more amusing.

I loved every single stanza here in this poem but this will definitely be my favourite:

    "Fights birthing from misunderstandings
    Or rather drunken mistakes
    Punches flying every which way
    Morning come people would realize
    Their own idiocy"

It's another image that many people, myself included can relate to. Often times we overlook the stupidity of our actions and focus on what's happening to us, instead of what's happening to others because of our own actions - especially from drunk scenarios, it's harder to acknowledge the fact that you were drunk and made a mistake, because oftentimes people think that it wasn't a mistake, and it was done on purpose (since many believe an intoxicated mind speaks sober thoughts, myself included). I don't know - I just wanted to say I relate this as well, and even though I realize I've done stupid mistakes, I have a hard time 'fessing up to them.

    Another well-written poem!

I could visualize different scenarios going on in
the bar and I also like how you have used each prompt to fit into one story...well done.
