Laid To Rest

by Beautiful Chaos   Jul 13, 2014

She felt like a star once, until heaven cast her out
Falling like an angel of fire
Innocent bystanders casting their wishes
Wasting hope on her fading light

She was deceived
Dark truths hidden behind eyes she loved
He was a bittersweet block of sugared granite
Realizations came too late once she loved

They stood together on the edge of reason
Dove off, praying to fly
Egos proved too heavy
The fall was long and hard

Sometimes she hears him, whispering her name
Snakes begin to crawl beneath her flesh
Winding their way to her depths
Squeezing the life out of her

Time promised nothing
But took everything
Sometimes the silence is so loud
It is deafening

Bathed in blood
She walked into the night
Sank into the moon
She always wanted to be buried in the stars

Tonight there would be nothing
No piece of her left to cast back to this place
Peace will find her beauty
Her heart will finally rest

What a very touching poem, I think it shows the true despair of a mind that is filled with darkness. Like all the hope for life has been drained.

There are a few great metaphors used in the poem, all working really well. The description of the sky, and how she was a star in it, and then the fallen angel, it was worded so beautifully. I also like how you end the poem by bringing the sky back like it was in the beginning, where she feels free and accepted, at peace with herself.

I think you chose the animal well as a snake, beneath her skin, squeezing life out, as this is exactly what snakes do and is so easy to picture this scene. This was done well.

I also like the following stanza where you say time promised nothing, such a true true statement!

Filled with pain and sorrow, but worded well.

    Good work.
