Poet's Reflection (villanelle )

by Michael D Nalley   Jul 18, 2014

Poetry may be reflections of immortal souls.
A record of life's journey to the sacred light.
Each poet has their own individual goals.

We are inspired by our missions, we have our roles.
Most of the time future visions are out of sight.
Poetry may be reflections of immortal souls.

Some gravitate toward spiritual black holes,
Others find substance in the light, and hold on tight.
Each poet has their own individual goals.

There are proverbial angels as well as the mythical moles.
Not lightly cast out of heaven by Saint Michael's might.
Poetry may be reflections of immortal souls.

It seems to be colder in the extremes of the poles,
As a wayward stranger discerns between wrong or right.
Each poet has their own individual goals.

The good often die young, as evil doers take tolls,
Though the enlightened strive with grace for a new height .
Poetry may be reflections of immortal souls.
Each poet has their own individual goals.

The Villanelle is a difficult form to peruse when writing formed poetry and I feel Michael achieved that goal and much more within this beautiful poem.
I particularly enjoyed his word usage within this piece, the desires of a poet and carefully detailed outline of the message.

"Proverbial angels as well as the mythical moles" <---- captivating word usage here ~
All in all, the message goes into great detail on the life and depth of a poet and the form was wonderfully displayed ~

I really loved the last stanza and the first stanza because both seem to go well with each other I also love the repetition of some parts and everything else was just beautiful I love the angels parts because it makes me think of God 5/5

I enjoyed this. I think many here will relate to this and also enjoy the words. I think it is good how you give a list of things and the reader can point out bits that relate to them most.

    Nice work
