Involuntary.

I tried, tried to shelter the silence,
but these voices feel they need to
support me when I am cornered
and it's all a fantasy my mind
contrived
out of the scribbles
of a vehement mortal.

(I am not in peril, am I?)

I have not been thrust into war,
endangered and terrified to
think on my knees,
yet, I still can't rid the idea
that time is paling,
and even though scars fade,
there are demons conspiring
beneath the skin that incite
an unwarranted slaughter.
I have too much to be blessed for,
and all I want is to enclose my heart
around the encouraging earth,
but desires are too culpable
like humanity's wicked touch.

Maybe, you will accidentally
catch me, my wounds undressed
spirit unprotected,
and perceive the tears
I never allowed myself to
sanction.

(And if my pen rejects my touch,
should I even persuade it to hear
me out?)
