Who Am I?

by cassie hughes   Jul 27, 2014

What do you see,
when you look at me?
A person with dreams
that were not meant to be?
Who wishes too late
she had followed her heart,
'though painful the world
would have seemed at the start?
A daughter who must
always do as she's told
but secretly wishes
that she could be bold?
A wife always trying
to give of her best?
A mother whose child
has abandoned the nest?
Will you look beneath
what the surface can show,
or will you walk away
so that you'll never know
all the layers and lies
that lay under my skin?
No, I'm not complicated,
just human, my friend.

I love this! This is so true and I love the openness of this one!

I think it is good because it so short, and straight to the point, you are peeling off the layers and showing us that what is underneath is you, and you are not only made up of what shows on the outside, and in your life, but what is lying underneath your skin and inside your heart and soul.

I think you done well to add in a lot of reality, like being a daughter, a mother, and having expectations.

I also like the ending, because you say you are only human, like of all us, nothing more and nothing less!

    Great poem.

Follow your dreams and live the life you want to live. A strong poem with much emotion. You displayed a battle of wanting to rise above the rules and embark on your own journey and so you should. Stay strong keep writing and go live your life for you. :)
