One by blood

Holy crap you're already 6 years old
I've watched you grow up
Your Daddy would be very proud if he were here today
I know I am
You have become just like a daughter to me

And soon you will be
I promise though
I wont ever try to take his place.

But I am afraid
that I will fail you two
You two beautiful girls

You know I love your mommy
and that I love you too

But with who
and
what
I am
I might end up messing up

But I wont ever stop trying
to do right by you

    Wow, this poem is really touching, I always find it is something perphaps to be shared when the girls are older? Like to look back on and show them that you always meant well, always tried your best by them.

    I also like how you treat them both the same, love them both the same, but at the same time, you make it clear that you are not trying to over-write the birth-father.

      Her birth father was a good friend of mine who passed away from cancer. she knows who he is, she has a picture of him pushing her in a swing when she was about 9 months old at a park
