Burning questions

by Beauty In The Breaking   Aug 10, 2014

Staring out the darkened window
watching all the passing cars,
wishing that I could fall asleep
just for a few hours reprieve
from the constant burning questions.

Whirling thoughts, spinning doubts,
wondering what I aught to do,
overwhelming pressures building
as I try to juggle it all
and yet smile without a care.

Trying hard to mask it all
so no one sees me slipping under,
smile brighter when you want to cry
so no one asks you why
but you're a fire burning out.

Aching empty loneliness,
just wanting to be held,
whispered to that it'll be alright
as fingers run through my hair
but I'm laying here alone instead.

People mentioning how rare it is
to see you look truly happy,
you try to laugh it off
but you whisper "I miss it too"
but you're too proud to say it.

Staring out the darkened window
watching all the passing cars,
wishing that I could fall asleep
just for a few hours reprieve
from the constant burning questions.

Whirling thoughts, spinning doubts,
wondering what I aught to do,
overwhelming pressures building
as I try to juggle it all
and yet smile without a care.

...as everything comes tumbling down
