The club of one

by Darren   Aug 13, 2014

***resubmitted and edited**

My mirror mocks my image daily
It cries;
you stupid useless self-loathing
Wasteful bastard

And another chink of self-worth
Falls away and rolls around the cold floor

It laughs at my tired eyes and lack
Of drive, it despises my self-pitying abstinence
Calling;
Do everyone a favour and finish something.

Then my heart shrinks into my knees
My pain hidden by my mask of intolerance.

Today it just stared back loathing
It could see I was building a friendship, many friendships
He telepathically taunted;
Why?
Why you?
Why a group?
What are you trying to prove you prick?
Start your club of one!

**found this old one written down in a notebook, I remember those wild days of using a pen**

    Convergence of thoughts, club of one/star wars!, could be true that great minds think alike _had a feeling you must have wrote almost a similar poem, to understand it with such depth. Equally a nice piece you have here. I'm a club of one.

    I vaguely remember this poem. The title definitely hints at depression here. But once the reader, readers the poem you don't know. But then you know. The details here are truly spot on and each one seems to be another symptom. At first you don't like the way you look at all. Your mind is playing tricks on you, saying you are worthless and fat. The second stanza holds so much truth within it. Every little negative thing can destroy us. Tired eyes definitely means lack of sleep, which leads onto stuff like racing thought, which circles back to lack of sleep. Depression hates other people. So the ending for me is perfect. Once you are happy, it always comes back and says all these bad things about friends and in time you believe them. Sad but true. Great write
