A Love Repulsed

by Baby Rainbow   Aug 23, 2014

Dancers tiptoed into silhouettes
of a New York skyline,
as the sunset gently rested
upon snow-capped mountains,
entertaining our first date.

I fell in love with your
protective embrace, and that
love grew like a garden,
with flowers blooming of
admiration, trust and devotion.

And with a diamond ring,
I vowed to spend eternity
watering our love.

But suddenly,
a deadly storm of betrayal roared across
our land, destroying everything
in its path;
everything we ever had.

Deceived debris lay buried
inside the wasteland of our dreams.
Poisons had been cast over
the graveyard of our love,
and roaches land upon my soul
as I pray for time to wither away
any memories I have of you.

Thanks for participating, Saffie, I always love reading your work. You have a simplistic style of writing yet it holds so much depth and imagery within.

The first stanza sets a beautiful scene! I love the image of the dancer's becoming silhouettes of a New York skyline as the sun settles on the mountains. I envision you two sitting together, watching the show and the sunset, a truly amazing moment for a first date.

You felt safe with them, they always had a strong embrace that made you feel like no harm would ever come your way. The love started out as a bud but quickly grew into a garden, each flower represented something new: admiration, trust and devotion. Before you knew it, they presented you with an engagement ring and you vowed to spend every single day watering your love so that it would always flourish. I love that so much!

Unfortunately, a storm suddenly arose. Betrayal destroyed everything you had. Everywhere you turned, there was debris, the dreams that you once shared together were shattered and the flowers that once bloomed were poisoned, it's now just a graveyard of stems. You are deeply hurt by this betrayal and now all that you pray for is time to erase any of the memories that you shared with this person. You are completely repulsed by the person that you once loved dearly.

Wonderful job with the prompt, exactly what I was looking for! :)

This poem has it all; love, trust, an overwhelming feel, the happiness and then the slaughter-betrayal. I like how you have incorporated nature with human nature it makes the read more visual and adds depth to the emotions underlying...nicely penned.

Love can change so quickly within a heartbeat. Loved the imagery overall here. The heart knows when you fall in love. Using flowers is a great way to connect the feelings you show here. Because love really does bloom overtime and though it will bloom slowly, the colors it holds when full is beautiful. Then you show how quickly love can change, everything is gone for n a second. Hearts get broken. I do like the weather used, a storm is known to be "scary" and so is losing the one you love, great connection. At first time always seems slow but then you heal though it may never feel like it. Great write.
