My eyes are darting, my breathing labored as I run faster through the trees.
A root trips me. A branch catches my cheek, drawing blood. But still I keep running.
I'm being stalked, my predator unknown but deadly he surely must be.
Something snaps in the dark and freezes me in my tracks, my ears straining to hear over the sound of my own heart pumping furiously.
Panic says I can't stay here, so I sprint faster not knowing where I am actually going.
How long have I been running? I can't know for sure, but my legs give out, saying it's been too long.
My lungs burn as I try to silence my heavy breathing.
I'm prey to an unknown hunter.
All I can do is wait...
Silence, silence is like heaven and I dare to hope.
Finding courage, I manage to get back up and slowly back away from the tree I was taking shelter under.
Making sure to keep my eyes on where I came from.
My biggest mistake.
Had I not been looking to the past I could have seen what was laying in wait for me.
My back hits something solid and it's arms quickly encircle me, turning me around to face it.
A dark hooded figure stands before me and all the fear I tried so hard to keep down comes flooding to the surface.
The figure moves quickly and it's strong hands find my throat, tightening it's grip with every breath I struggle to take.
As my sight begins to darken, I find enough strength to reach out for the figure's hood.
With my last ounce of strength I pull the hood back and reveal my attacker.
I go wide eyed as I recognize the face.
Like looking into a mirror, I stare back at myself.
My knees buckle and I hit the ground but the figure never loses it's grip.
My tears make everything blurry and darkness creeps over me, covering me like a blanket.
The cold fingers around my throat tighten one last time, going in for the kill.
Helpless, all I can do is watch with fear as the darkness finally swallows me whole.
I couldn't escape. Fear won.
I killed myself.
