Knight Errant

by cassie hughes   Sep 9, 2014

The princess stood at the top of the tower
and stomped her feet and cried
"It just isn't fair, the witch is dead
but I'm still to her power enslaved!"
A voice then rang out, mellow, deep and proud
and she stared at the figure below
as he called out her name and uttered a vow
to release her forthwith and hereto.
"O handsome knight who e'er you are,"
She trilled as she swished her hair.
"I pray you do succeed with haste
for I am sick of the view from up here."
"My lady fair, I'm sure that I, can be
quick as a flash you'll see."
And with that he did bow and raised his sword
and smote the tower, one, two, three.
Of a sudden the stones began to crack
and the lady screamed high and long.
As the tower began to crumble away
she thought he had got it quite wrong.
Yet instead of collapsing to rubble and dust
the building began to shrink
to the size of a cottage with thatch, and a door
that was painted a bright shade of pink.
"Sweet knight you have saved me from fate worse than death."
The lady called out as she ran
through the door and right into his arms without care
thinking he was a marvellous man.
But the knight when he saw her up close and so near
shook his head in alarm and decried
"Nay, my lady you're not what I wanted at all,
far too ugly and short and so wide!"
Then he leapt on his horse and he galloped away
leaving princess to seethe in a snit.
Throwing curses and stamping all to no avail
as he vanished off into the night.
So the moral young lady is watch, what you eat
if a witch should come by with a spell,
that does lock you away way up high and make sure
she enchants you with beauty as well.

I don't know where this bit of madness came from sorry!!

What a insane artistic poem! The imagery is really deep and strong throughout the poem. You put together a poem that flows so gracefully and incorporates so much artistic vividness. Something out of a storybook for sure! You left me with a smile ear to ear as I read this, I loved the quirkiness of it and the humour within it. I would find a poem like this a bit tough to write but you did a fantastic job with it making it it's own unique storybook.
