Last Goodbye To Light

by cassie hughes   Sep 22, 2014

Sunlight plays its games
across the waters rippling surface.
Bringing hidden rainbows out,
for eyes that look to see.
Beneath the ever changing flow
of myriad sparkling colours.
Lies peaceful, dark oblivion
where my heart can be free.

The waters call is pure and sweet
and I would answer, since
my world became a silent
parody of loves sweet balm.
Alike the river, all about me
shines, whilst deep within
I cannot hide the dark that
holds my soul within its palm

So here I stand, at last
in summers final glow
upon the waters edge
and draw a crimson line.
Then watch as drip by drip
it feeds the growing trail
of life rejected. Blood and
water, intertwined

At last I move into
the rivers cold embrace
and grasp, with hope, the
numbness that immersion brings.
And when the sunlight disappears
above the waves I smile
and sigh. At peace as darkness
closes in and my heart sings.

This is a wonderful piece, Cassie, dripping with your usual knack for flow and imagery.
Lines 5 through to 8 were wonderful!
