Let's Pretend

by Kakera   Oct 1, 2014

Let's pretend for a second
that the next time we meet
we'll be strangers again.

Let's pretend that beyond
the vague first impressions
lies stomach butterflies of a forever tonight:

This, my love, is our story,
and I'm ready to drop my limitations
and live and love in the moment again.

Because our bond was always painted
in the colours of mirrors unbroken,
reflecting what we could be, but weren't.

So let's pretend we're strangers again.
Grant us both a fresh start and Band-Aids for our wounds,
because me having stopped bleeding was my truest lie.

And I'm not over you, stranger,
so don't hide behind the anxious heartbeats:
don't let the demons play symphonies of our tragedies --

Let's pretend, my lover, for forever
that we're ready to not be strangers again,
and that your tears are of joy and laughter.

Let's pretend that we're strangers,
so that maybe we can fall in love again.

I really like the honesty in this piece and they way your voice shines through this write. Amazing job. Beautifully heartbreaking piece. Probably one of my favorites from you so far, greatly penned!

Thank you! I'm quite happy with it despite it being a makeshift poem written for Saffie's challenge, LOL. It seems in general that my poetry has to be either very bleak, or about love, for them to reach their heights. Hahaha.
