Necklace Of Love

by cassie hughes   Oct 1, 2014

Moonlight plays its dreamlike games
across the surface of the mirror.
Casting gentle shadows on the face she sees within.
In these moments all alone,
when horror lies in sated slumber.
Naive dreams call, taunting her, with how it could have been.

Rosy glows of youth and love
stare back with wistful, longing eyes, as
pleading with herself to leave, she knows she will refuse.
How can she abandon all
the dreams and hopes she's built her world on?
Lies come easy to a heart with nothing left to lose.

Moonlight plays its dreamlike games
across the surface of the mirror.
Lighting up the face of someone that she used to know.
Showing off the necklace of love,
left by booze soaked, callous fingers.
Scars may fade, but in her mind they never really go.
