Shadow Boy

by Cantchangeme   Oct 12, 2014

In the afternoon in silence
In the place where I was born
Where once there lived a shadow
And where once there lived a boy

The shadow there found solace
The boy there found a gun
With the afternoon now dying
They watched another's fading sun

Another's hand loaded up the bullets
The boy locked and span the wheel
No future in the forgetting
No hope left behind to steal

The shadow stood behind the boy that night
The boy took a bullet to the brain
No matter whose hand pulled the trigger
The blood spilled out all the same

Does the boy lie silent in darkness now?
Where no shadow shall be cast
Where no boy has a future
And no boy has a past

The shadow boy lives inside me still
Inside that silent afternoon
Where no-ones sun is fading
And no-one leaves too soon
