Unheard Silent Cries

by VP Cruz   Oct 15, 2014

The rain trickles, holding mother's hand
Without an umbrella, she strides in demand
The water runs along the man-made gutter
Children are there playing in the water
Wanting to join, it seemed like fun
All are playing except for one
A little girl, all shivering wet
A picture one will never forget
Mouth open, her wanting, needing stare
Feet naked, holds an armless teddy bear
Tugging her arm I question mother
She mindlessly trots, never a care or bother
Wanted her to see, just for a moment
Her torn tattered dress, no undergarment
My body walking forward, head at 180
To see her again, I'm hoping...maybe
Many questions now occupy my mind
Why their clothes are different from mine?
Of their mothers, do they not care?
Perhaps the answer lies in her stare
I turn to mother as she tugs at my arm
A car passes, sounding its horn
Delights the children, as the car splashes
The driver shouts as his hand flashes
All but the one little girl
Alone in her own little world
I'll never forget those little blue eyes
Feel and hear her unheard silent cries
