It is difficult to approach this poem, MaryAnne, without first acknowledging that I was raised on the same Roman Catholic icons you place in your work. However, in this event, I believe, they are the means by which you address your abiding closeness to the angel-comforter, than necessarily as a profession of faith. The technique is well done and leads the reader into understanding the camaraderie you portray as it were perfectly normal to awaken such a person at ungodly hours without fear of rejection.
Your despair, so painfully set out, "wrestling demons between stale sheets," sets up the final expiation of doubt as you chant his name into the order of cherubim as your own guardian angel.

Congratulations on your win, what a very creative an unique piece for the front page!

Your wording really does always surprise me, it is always so interesting to read your word and see how you connect them together so vividly!

I like this poem because although it can be taken literally in the sense of religion, and the comfort you gain from this, it can also be taken as a general longing for that comfort in life. The religion side to the poem is very well constructed with all your added bits of religious items/places/names etc, that was really clever. But the comfort side to it I thought was very open, I think it explains the battle of doubting your own faith in something, yet wanting it to be true. Even through the times when you do doubt that person is there, you still find yourself speaking to them or asking them for guidance.

I like the honesty in this poem, sometimes we doubt, but then something keeps us holding on!

    Judging Comment:

Honestly I fell in love with your writing all over again when I read this piece. The descriptions are simple and yet still so delicately, perfectly placed and worded. Your style is quite unlike that of most writers here on Poems and quotes, which is amazing, because your writes stand out so vividly even when they are toned down for the feel or emphasis you are meaning to place upon them. The way you went about making your point here is phenomenal, so many people have written about people passing through their lives and leaving muddy footprints on their hearts or becoming so important that they are a guardian angel or something of that sort, but the writes never seem so unique as this one. Your final complete stanza really speaks to the reader, showing the importance of this person without making it overly obvious how you feel and taking away the illusion and beauty of your words - it's excellent. Phenomenally penned.

A very descriptive poem filled with metaphors and vivid imagery, yet also focuses on life and how comfort is there, when we decide to accept it and not run from it. The poem really shows the strength of faith, of holding on and not giving up, and the tone of the poem is a mixture of reflective, and positive thinking that in the end, things will be okay. This poem is a great uplifting read for anyone who is facing a dark time, and feels that no one, or nothing, is there for them.
