Spellbound

by cassie hughes   Oct 30, 2014

When in zenith of the night
the wind doth howl,
and cold doth bite.
Harken to this warning all,
I'll speak in truth
about my fall.
'Twas only me to blame you see,
for falling in
to misery.
My lust for one I could not have
it drove me on
it drove me mad.
I sought a way to make him mine,
through tomes I searched,
for countless time.
Until a spell I found at last
he would be mine,
once it was cast.
I never stopped to really think
on what I did,
how low I'd sink.
For once temptation had me gripp'd,
my heart was set
decision fixed.
Blood freely dripped to seal the vow
my soul in pledge
forever now.
Ignored the warning in my heart
a fool I was
right from the start.
I sought him out when it was done
to taste his love
and bring him home.
But satan is a cruel sort
who likes to play
with us for sport.
One night was all I had before
he took my love
for evermore.
I wander now alone, bereft
and ponder on
what I have left.
A broken heart, a twisted soul
a future that
is not my own.
For I must pay the price you see
and tempt more
to become like me.
Then when my end doth come at last,
in hell I will
repent my past.

Cassie, this poem holds a lot of beautiful imagery and great English wording, which I believe works well here. You kind of built up that great dark vibe here. With the wind howling and the characters voice brings it all together nicely. This person seems to be spell bound by Satan and it even seems like you gave your soul to him in exchange for love, but everyone knows the devil always has tricks up his sleeve and tricked you into him your soul. And in return when you die you will spend the afterlife in hell because of a mistake you made in your past. 5/5
