One Woman's Courage

by Baby Rainbow   Nov 1, 2014

Beyond her wrinkled folds of skin,
sleeps untold stories from
black and white years gone by.
Memories as fresh as time
wait patiently behind her eyes,
waiting for someone to listen.
Tears trickle down her cheeks with a hopeful splash-
perhaps future generations will see her damaged past
and prevent it from becoming
someone else's future.

Torture and pain strayed within the streets
of her mind for decades,
afraid that no one would believe her sleeping secrets.
But as time ticked by, fear arrived at her doorstep-
a powerful fear of leaving this world
without trying to change the
predicted statistics for the children
who will be the adults of tomorrow.

But this one woman's courage shocks the entire nation,
as she shares with us the untold damage
which she almost took to her grave.
Tragic abuse hiding behind the tired eyes of a woman
who never got the chance to simply be a child.

And her dying wish is to ensure
that no child will ever have to live
in unimaginable fear,
in the unjustified way
she always did.

Courage is not something a lot of people have, because we hold it back due to fear. Telling the story of your childhood is brave especially when one goes through a tragic event or more than one bad thing. Anything that can help someone overcome what they have been through, like a young girl or guy should be told because it will help them open up to someone they trust and get the help that they need. This is my favorite poem from you because not only did you open up about how much you hurt but the feelings you expressed can help so many people, thank you for sharing. <3.
