Forgiveness

by Mermaids Lullaby   Nov 7, 2014

Habibi,

I remember that morning so vividly that it outshines the sun.

-Salt water, sticky sea mist, and used up cologne;

Petals of roses trailing toward first glances; a steel embrace

Forbidden passion; rays of light baking ashen flesh.-

I waded deep into the horizon of our infatuation;

With no fear of drowning, because you were a sea of limerance

Waves chewed at the threads of our secret romance,

Leaving the bare truth of a story that can never be.

He was no angel sent from heaven, but a glowing temptation

Instilling me with candlelit wishes and a pipe to blow them out

Something altered my existence while peering into his eyes

-A look that traveled my heart to exotic places-

Hit by another wave warning the need for distance, we broke.

-Still I kept dreaming until projected back into his bronze arms-

Nothing calmed that pining but a ring binding us to eternity;

Until even that melted like my snow white skin;

Opening my eyes to how cruel 'post honeymoon' can be.

After losing everything for the sake of his name,

Loathing and vengeance should be my only confession:

But I can never hate him; nor bring my self to get even.

For although the ring be a puddle of shapeless promises:

The circle of love remain charred around my finger.

Love,

Forgiveness.

    This is definitely a heartbreaking read in its own ways but.it is wonderfully penned and I love the word choice you used because you not only describe the love and the person but you truly make it something absolutely captivating. I cannot believe I have yet to find your work up til now, because this is amazing.

    Phenomenally penned.

    Absolutely beautiful.
